Welcome to the USS Mercury

The year is 2393. Even as the 24th Century gradually nears its end, Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets continue with their mission of peaceful exploration and scientific advancement. Starfleet's freshest recruits are almost too young to remember the Dominion War, but the changes that it triggered in the political landscape still continue on, as Starfleet provides aid to the rebuilding Cardassian Union and attempts to use the old war time alliance to forge stronger ties with the Romulan Empire. The Breen, ever mysterious even after the war, have largely pulled back into their own territory, and the Ferengi Alliance is is a state of constant reform under Grand Nagus Rom. And even so there are still countless more systems, races and empires that are yet to be discovered beyond the reaches of the Federation's borders.

It is in this time that the Starship Mercury serves. Named in memory of NASA's first manned spaceflight programme and captained by respected former law keeper Captain Nathan Hunt, the Mercury and her crew aim to embody the ethos of those early missions into Earth's orbit and the ancient god of travellers for which the project was named. To boldly go, to seek out new life and new civilisations, and to be damn big heroes while they were doing it.

Captain Nathan Hunt sat in a lawn chair, gazing up at the night sky. It was a perfectly clear, balmy night on Altair VI, and the stars above were perfectly visible in the quiet countryside he had driven out to on his rental hover bike. The stars always seemed to…
